The honest answer

How to get your business on ChatGPT

Straight answers, including the parts most people selling this won't tell you.

Short answer: there is no button, no sign-up and no form. ChatGPT has no business directory you can add yourself to, and OpenAI does not sell placement inside its answers.

What decides whether your business gets named is the information about your business that already exists on the open web — and how clearly it matches what the customer asked.

So "getting on ChatGPT" is not a sign-up. It's a job of making your business easy to find, easy to describe correctly, and easy to quote. Here is what that actually means.

What actually affects whether ChatGPT names you

1. Whether your details exist, correctly, in places it reads

Your name, what you sell, where you are, your hours and your prices. If those details are missing, vague, or contradict each other across different sites, the model has nothing solid to work with — so it names someone it can describe confidently instead.

2. Whether you're described the way customers ask

Customers don't ask for "a purveyor of premium linens." They ask "where can I buy linen shirts under $40?" If your business is only ever described in your own marketing language, it will match fewer real questions.

3. Whether the information is current

Old prices, closed hours and discontinued products all cause wrong answers. A correctly-built presence with a wrong price is arguably worse than no presence at all.

4. Whether it's consistent across sources

Three different addresses and two different phone numbers make you less likely to be named, not more. Consistency reads as reliability.

Be careful with anyone selling "ChatGPT placement." There is no ad slot to buy inside ChatGPT answers. Any offer of guaranteed placement for a fee is not describing something that exists.

What a legitimate service can do is put your information in order so that being named becomes possible — and tell you honestly that it can't guarantee a customer picks you.

What you can do yourself

This is the real checklist. It works, and it's free. If you have the time, do it.

Your free starter checklist

  • Write one clear paragraph describing exactly what your business does, for whom, and where.
  • Make sure your address, hours and phone number are identical everywhere they appear.
  • Put your actual prices or price range on your site — vague pricing is unfindable.
  • List your services using the words customers use, not industry words.
  • Keep your opening hours and seasonal closures up to date.
  • Claim and correct your listings on the big directories.
  • Ask ChatGPT your own customers' questions and note what it gets wrong.
  • Fix what it gets wrong by correcting the source information, then ask again.

Where it gets hard

Most businesses start the checklist and stop. Not because it's complicated, but because of these:

  • It's not a one-off. Prices, stock, hours and offers change constantly, and stale information undoes the work.
  • You need to know which questions to test — and to test them repeatedly as the answers shift.
  • You have to write about your business the way customers ask, which is hard when you're inside it.
  • You need to do it in every language your customers use, not just yours.
  • Nobody tells you when an answer drifts back to being wrong.

That is the gap. Not the knowledge — the upkeep.

What we do about it

We do the whole job for you: read your website, extract your services, area, hours and prices into one set of information a plugin can answer from, test it before submission, and submit it for OpenAI review.

You send us your website address. We do everything else — and when your details change, we rebuild the plugin, test it again and resubmit it.

Common questions

Is there a way to add my business to ChatGPT?

No. ChatGPT has no business directory you can sign up to, and no "add my business" button. There is no paid placement inside ChatGPT answers. What decides whether your business is mentioned is the information about your business that exists on the open web, and how clearly it matches what the customer asked.

Can I pay to be mentioned in ChatGPT?

No. OpenAI does not sell placement inside ChatGPT answers. Anyone offering to "put you in ChatGPT" for a one-time fee with guaranteed placement is not describing something that exists. What a service can do is make your business information correct, current and clearly worded — which makes being named possible.

Will ChatGPT recommend my business if I ask it to?

Asking ChatGPT to recommend you doesn't make it happen — and asking it to recommend your competitors doesn't make them happen either. Answers are generated from what the model knows and what it can find, so the work is in the information about your business, not in the request.

How long does it take?

It varies. Some changes show up quickly because the information already exists somewhere the model can read. Others depend on that information being re-crawled, which can take weeks. Nobody can promise a specific date, and anyone who does is guessing.

Can anyone guarantee my business will be chosen?

No. Being mentioned makes you one of the options. Whether a customer picks you still depends on your prices, reviews and service. An honest provider will tell you that rather than promise a result they can't control.

Does my website need to change?

No. Your website can stay exactly as it is. What matters is that the details about your business — services, area, hours, prices — are clear, consistent and easy to read wherever they appear.
